On graduating from UOWD, Shawn Frank, went straight into an IT position with a local company. He has since established his own development business 'MindHyve', with fellow UOWD graduate Ronak Dave, backed by a prominent international brand executive based in Dubai.
“When I first joined, I did not know what to expect as UOWD was not too well-known for its computer science degree then. It took one class with the professors to realise that this is probably the best group of teachers you could get in the UAE.
“What made such a striking difference in our education here was that our teachers prepared us for the real world. They only told us enough to spark our curiosity... they inspired us to ask questions, to go beyond the course and do things that would help us to be remembered and make a difference. Under the faculty's supervision, my team and I beat the UAE's best competitive challengers three times in a row and represented the country in the world's premier technology competition, the Imagine Cup. Because of them, I am currently doing what I love, one of my projects will be going live this year and I am closer than ever to having something of my own.
“I also fondly remember the times outside the classroom. I loved to play football, so I found a great balance in life when I got a chance to play for the University. While representing the country in a competition is something huge, representing the University football team is something I prize to this day and rate very highly in my memories of student life.”
