Shurooq recounts how the networking skills she learnt at UOWD help her in a job that involves running projects in remote villages in Africa and Asia, and in raising funds for a charity, conceived by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that is focused on the prevention of blindness globally.
Shurooq says, “Today, as I travel the world for my work, I am able to apply the skills I learnt at the University to my daily tasks and challenges".
“When I was looking at universities for my postgraduate course, everyone I asked gave me a thumbs-up and told me to just go for UOWD. I experienced a strong focus on research, both as a student and as an alumna, with the papers by UOWD professors published in reputable journals".
“I am very proud of my association with UOWD. As beneficial as my studies have been since graduation, even before graduating, the strategic plan I wrote for Noor Foundation as part of a class project was presented to the board of trustees and was partly implemented. What I took from UOWD is far more than what I gave as a student and I can proudly say that I graduated from UOWD as a wealthier individual - equipped with more knowledge and skills and a greater confidence in my abilities. The best lesson was during a Quality course where the professor introduced us to Toastmasters International and I went on to join it and eventually be placed as a World Champion Speaker in 2013”.
