UOWD Undergraduate Student Guide 2016-17

All UOWD’s degree programs are industry focussed, with several receiving recognition from internationally renowned, professional organisations. In a number of areas, the University curriculum has been designed to align with the industry recognised standards and continuing education requirements of the following associations and institutes.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is the international organisation for accounting professionals, promoting ongoing career development and ethical practice amongst accountants across the globe.

UOWD’s Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accountancy has been accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants for exemption from 9 out of 14 ACCA papers, the maximum exemption that can be achieved at undergraduate level. Graduate can gain professional certification from the ACCA to become a chartered accountant.

Australian Computer Society (ACS)

The Australian Computer Society is an association for information and communications technology professionals, promoting excellence and continuing career development in the field of information technology.

UOWD’s Bachelor of Information Technology in Management Information Systems and the Bachelor of Computer Science program, including the two majors in Digital Systems Security and Multimedia and Game Development, are accredited by the Australian Computer Society.

Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust) / Washington Accord

The Institute of Engineers Australia, also known as Engineers Australia, is the national forum for the advancement of engineering and the professional development of engineers. Embracing all disciplines of engineering, it is the largest and most diverse professional body for engineers in Australia.

UOWD’s Bachelor of Engineering degree, offering majors in Electrical, Telecommunication and Computer Engineering, has been professionally accredited by the Institute of Engineers Australia. Through the Washington Accord, courses accredited by Engineers Australia are recognised by equivalent professional Engineering authorities in the USA, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and other countries.

Project Management Institute (PMI)

The Project Management Institute is the world’s largest non-profit membership associations for the project management profession. It supports organisations and practitioners to develop and deliver good practices and to pursue continuing professional development in the field.

Engineering Project Management is a core subject in the Master of Engineering Management program at UOWD. Taking this module satisfies one of the key application criteria for the Project Management Professional (PMP) qualification and students who pass the program can use this subject as evidence of their 35 hours of project management education.
