UOWD Undergraduate Student Guide 2016-17

UOWD is proud to celebrate student success and to recognise and reward special achievements. The Student Services department has established a number of annual student competitions, which award various cash prizes to winning students and offer AED 500 to one other student in each category who receives an honourable mention.

University Spirit Award

The University Spirit Award recognises UOWD students who demonstrate outstanding university spirit through their involvement and leadership in the student community during the academic year. The University Spirit Award winner receives a crystal trophy, a certificate and a cheque for AED 1,000.

Sportsperson of the Year Award

The Sportsperson of the Year Award was established in 2007 to recognise UOWD students who demonstrate outstanding conduct, involvement and leadership in the UOWD sports teams during the academic year. Good sportsmanship is a great tradition in sports competition and means playing fair and handling both victory and defeat with grace, style, and dignity. The Sportsperson of the Year Award winner receives a crystal trophy, a certificate and a cheque for AED 1,000.

Safir Award

This award recognises contributions to improving cultural relations on campus to an individual or group over the course of the academic year. First awarded in 2010, the Safir Award was inspired by activities undertaken by the Emirati Club in promoting awareness and understanding of their culture. “Safir” means ambassador and the Safir Award is intended to honour individuals or groups who promote cultural awareness and understanding.
