We (Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, UOWD) in collaboration with the Mathematics Department at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) will organize the first UAE Mathematics Competition (MATHALONE) among many of the higher colleges and universities in the UAE. The competition will be similar to the National Programming Contest however directed to Students with basics mathematical intellect. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to invite you to participate in Mathalone 2010 which will be held at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) on February 13, 2010.

Who Can Participate?

Students with basics Mathematics background (Pre-Calculus, Mathematical Applications, and Discrete Mathematics) would be invited to participate. These students include sophomore, junior or senior students in any of the following majors: Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Economics and Business.

What Questions Should We Expect?

Who, Where AND When?

The event will be hosted by UOWD at its campus in knowledge village, Dubai Click here for location map on Saturday, February 13, 2010 and faculty members from different universities will be invited to act as judges and provide possible candidate questions. The registration of the event will start at 10 AM, the contest will start at 11:30 AM and the closing ceremony will be at 4:00 PM. A lunch buffet will be provided during the contest. There will be an award ceremony where all participating teams will be recognized and the winning teams will be awarded valuable prizes.

Teams, Costs and Awards

Each university can send a maximum of three teams (with 2 student members in each team + 1 faculty coach) to participate in the event. The faculty coach can serve on more than one team.  Each team will be requested to pay 250 AED in order to help with the costs of the event.  The winning teams will be awarded valuable prizes that include laptops, and advanced scientific calculators.
