The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) recently awarded 347 Autumn semester scholarships to new and current students, totaling over AED 12.5 million, at a ceremony held at its campus in Knowledge Village.

The scholarships, which entitle recipients to between 10 and 100 per cent off tuition fees, were presented to 322 new students and 25 current students.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. John Patterson, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UOW, said, “Over the past 19 years, UOWD has gained a reputation for quality and as a result we are known for the academic excellence of our graduates. We are delighted to recognise some really deserving students through these scholarships.”

Beside merit scholarships for new and current students, the event also awarded scholarships to students for outstanding academic excellence and outstanding sports achievement.

Namrata Amar, a new student enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) program, who won a scholarship based on her high school academic excellence, said “I am delighted to be awarded a 50 per cent scholarship, and I will work hard to maintain my grade to continue the scholarship in future semesters. I believe this is a good start for my pursuit of university education.”

Feras Al Hattab, a 3rd year Computer Science student who won a 20 per cent scholarship, said, “It is a great feeling to win this scholarship for the first time. This university is quite tough when it comes to granting scholarships. At the same time, it offers a great atmosphere for learning. This scholarship will motivate me to set my sights higher.”
