Before joining University of Wollongong in Dubai, Dr Goodwin served as an Associate and Full Professor in universities in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the UAE.
In these positions he has not only undertaken academic responsibilities but has also served as Head of Department, Head of the Business School, Dean, and Assistant Provost.
Dr Goodwin was most recently at Abu Dhabi University as Professor of Accounting and also Chair of Accounting. Prior to that he was at Zayed University, Bond University (Australia), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Lincoln University (New Zealand), and what is now the University of South Australia.
He has also consulted to several, now established universities, during their start up phase. These consultations are in addition to quality assurance reviews he has undertaken for established universities.
Dr Goodwin qualifications include PhD from University of Adelaide, FCPA, CA. He did his BBS (Bachelor of Business Studies majoring in accounting and finance) from Massey University, New Zealand, where he won the university prize for his overall performance in corporate and management accounting. Later, he completed his MBA (Master of Business Administration) from University of Otago, New Zealand.
His primary teaching areas are management accounting and management control. His interest in these teaching areas arose during his twenty years of corporate experience that was gained before joining academia. In this time he served in the roles of Management Accountant, Systems Accountant, and Company Secretary. He is also an active researcher and has published many papers in both refereed and professional journals. He has also presented frequently at international conferences.
