Dr Mohamed K Watfa, Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, is starring in a new television show aimed at inspiring the next generation of budding inventors. Currently airing on MENA’s children edutainment channel MBC3 on Tuesday evenings at 6pm, The INVENTOR puts the UAE’s most creative youngsters to the test by pitting teams against each other in a series of tasks. From designing cars of the future to creating robots that help with the housework, the young inventors’ creations are evaluated by a jury, headed up by Dr Watfa, and judged on their quality, functionality and final design.Dr Watfa has been involved in The INVENTOR since its inception. Before filming began he had a key role in selecting the nation’s top 16 young inventors to compete on the show after a UAE-wide talent search. Dr Watfa and Dr Farhad Oroumchian, Acting Dean of UOWD’s Engineering and Information Sciences faculty, led a team of UOWD staff and students in running casting workshops at the University’s Knowledge Village campus to select the final competitors.Dr Watfa's innovative skills are well-known in Dubai's academic community. He has a number of patented inventions and has also headed up a postgraduate course at UOWD for more than two years that inspires student creativity and teaches students how to innovate and design.Commenting on the new show, Dr Watfa said: “It’s a great initiative to encourage the next generation of inventors to come to the fore. It’s amazing to see how passionate the children are about coming up with new ideas and inventing new hardware and software solutions. Some of the competitors are as young as 6 years old! Here at UOWD we’re committed to supporting young talent, so being involved in The INVENTOR has been an excellent experience for us.”
