In a moving ceremony, the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) bid farewell to its CEO, Professor Stephen Martin, at its new premises in Knowledge Village yesterday. Several senior staff speaking on behalf of the UOWD family expressed the sentiments of all staff by thanking Professor Martin for his inspirational leadership during the past year. They commented on his dynamic headship, his strategic management and the visionary direction he provided in guiding UOWD to a position of strength as a pre-eminent tertiary education institution in the UAE. The role played by Professor Martin in securing UAE Ministry of Higher Education accreditation for UOWD courses and moving to its present facilities at Knowledge Village was noted with appreciation. In response, Professor Martin thanked staff for their contribution towards making his tenure at UOWD a rewarding experience. He reflected on the trials and tribulations the entire UOWD family had undergone during the past twelve months and noted that the achievements would not have been possible without the support he had received from the staff. He indicated that he was leaving UOWD with fond memories and with the comfort of knowing this great University was in capable hands to forge ahead from strength to strength. The ceremony concluded with an afternoon tea reception. Professor Martin returns to Australia to assume the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) at Victoria University in Melbourne.
