UOWD celebrates Library Week 2014Over 250 students and staff showed how much they appreciated the Library at the University of Wollongong in Dubai this month by participating in the University's annual Library Week. With the theme "I need, I value, I love my library", the event was organised by the library team at UOWD to raise awareness of the valuable services that the library offers to students, staff and alumni. With over 35,000 books, journals, newspapers and DVDs, along with 106,033 electronic titles, the University's library is a treasure trove of amazing resources.Library Week saw students taking part in a plethora of fun events over the course of the celebration, including book mark making contests, treasure hunts and trivia contests - and with students allowed to be a little louder in the library than they usually are, it was a great success. The week culminated in a closing prize giving ceremony attended by alumnus and guest of honour Ms Kanika Amar, who is now a Wealth Management Client Relationship Manager at RAK bank. Introduced by UOWD's Director of Administration and Strategy Mr Brett Lovegrove and Library Services Manager Ms Saba Gaffar, Ms Amar described how her own experiences of using the University library had a positive impact on her career. She recommended to students that reading for just 15 to 20 minutes every morning can make a great difference to levels of concentration and focus throughout the day.
