Thursday, 20 January, 2011

Professor Rob Whelan (UOWD President) welcomed the President, Director, and College Dean of the Emirates College of Technology to the UOWD Majlis for discussions on collaboration between the two institutions.

Mohamed Ahmed bin Mahoush al Mazroui, ECT President, and Wael Ibrahim al Anqar, ECT Director, joined Professor Whelan in the signing of the renewal of the articulation agreement between the two institutions. Professor Whelan welcomed Mr Wael Ibrahim al Anqar back to UOWD, as a UOWD MBA alumnus.

The agreement outlines the conditions under which ECT graduates can enrol in a UOWD degree, and obtain credit for equivalent subjects completed at ECT. The equivalent subjects cover general education, accounting, business, computer systems, economics, finance, information systems, management, marketing, and statistics. The list of subjects deemed equivalent is available through this link.

Professor Whelan said: "UOWD and ECT have had an articulation agreement for the past five years. The renewal of our agreement reflects an expanded menu of ECT subjects for which there are equivalent UOWD subjects. He thanked the UOWD Deans for their work with their ECT counterparts on the detail of the articulation agreement, which has now been endorsed by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation.

In acknowledging the new agreement with UOWD, Wael Ibrahim Al Anqar said that ECT graduates now have more opportunities to receive a bachelors degree at UOWD after two additional years of higher education.

Mohamed Ahmed bin Mahoush al Mazroui, ECT President, enthused about the opportunities for innovative teaching practices that the collaboration with UOWD will create. "We are installing technology at ECT which will enable students in multiple locations to take the same classes he said. He added that the collaboration could lead to development in blended learning with students in Abu Dhabi and in Dubai working together in real time.

Also present at the ceremony in President Whelans office at UOWD were UOWDs Raymi van der Spek, Executive Director for Strategic Development, and Dr Alma Kadragic, Academic Program Developer - Abu Dhabi.
