UOWD to host national public speaking competition

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) will host a national public speaking competition open to all undergraduate students in the UAE. The event will take place on February 16, 2006 at UOWD, Dubai Knowledge Village. Contestants will vie for top speaker honours in six competitive categories: Public Address, Impromptu speaking, Extemporaneous speaking, Radio Newsreading and two categories of Storytelling, traditional and original. Tournament organizer, Melissa Bos, a lecturer from UOWD stated "this event will showcase the public speaking talent of students from across the UAE. The variety of categories will provide an exciting and challenging format for students of all backgrounds". Community-based sponsors are providing not only prizes, but also internship or corporate experiences to winners. FirstNet, the key sponsor, will award the prestigious Public Address winner 1000 dirhams and an extended subscription to FirstNet channels. Khaleej Times, 104.8 Channel 4FM, Shapes Health Club and Magrudy's will provide prize packs plus internship experiences. The final rounds and award ceremony will take place in the Dubai Knowledge Village auditorium on 16th February at 3.30 pm.
