The Amra Notun Bangladesh Expat Student Association (BESA) at UOWD successfully hosted a Bangla Bazaar on March 31 2011 celebrating their second anniversary, Bangladeshs 40th Independence Day and the Bangla New Year.
Over 400 participants and audiences from Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Al Ain participated in the fun day long event. The club members worked hard to ensure that all events and competitions went off without a hitch.
From Kabaddi (the national sport of Bangladesh) to dance to cookery, painting, sari-wearing and flag-design contests, the level of competitive vigour and the excitement was very high. Participants ranged from UOWD staff and students, to the Bangladeshi community members, school students and students from other universities in the UAE.
The multi-purpose hall and games room were transformed to give the look and feel of a Bangladeshi carnival, the stalls representing a variety of displays, the atmosphere was one of fun, drawing audiences to join in.
A special cultural show was performed by participants from Al Ain and a special Bangladeshi lunch was served. Prizes included air tickets, cash and trophies courtesy of the sponsors.
