Working people can now fulfil their aspiration of acquiring an undergraduate degree with flexibility

In another pioneering initiative, University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has launched a part-time Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) undergraduate degree program, for the benefit of employed students.

Classes for the program, which begin from the spring semester (September 19), will be conducted in the evenings on weekdays from 5.30 pm onwards and on Saturdays from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. The key advantage of the program is that it gives employed persons the flexibility to acquire a BBA degree at their own pace, allowing them the freedom to choose the number of subjects per semester.

"UOWD identified a niche for a part-time BBA because of the unique demographics of the UAE. Firstly, there are a number of people who came as spouses in their late 20s or 30s but did not get an opportunity to pursue tertiary education. More significantly, there are a large number of young Emirati young men and women who take up employment directly after high school, and then realise that their career prospects are restricted because of the absence of a degree, said Raymi van der Spek, Executive Director of Administration and Strategic Development at UOWD.

"As one of the leading universities in the UAE, UOWD has been delivering quality tertiary education for over 18 years. We are pleased to announce that the standards offered in our full-time BBA program will be extended to the part-time program, enabling working people to pursue higher education without upsetting their work life, added der Spek.

The evening classes on weekdays and morning classes on Saturdays will consist of two hours of lectures, followed by a one or two hour of tutorial. The university is providing a shuttle bus service to the nearest Metro station, for the benefit of students commuting by train. The fees for the course are the same as the full-time BBA, pegged at AED 5100 per subject.
