UOWD love their library!
Thursday, 29 October, 2015
Students, staff and alumni recently paid homage to an outstanding University of Wollongong resource during the University’s annual Library Week. Organised by the library team, the celebrations saw large numbers of students and staff participate in fun activities, ranging from a used book sale to a book relay, an opportunity for students and staff to turn their hand to being a librarian to book mark contests and word scrambles. Amongst the victorious were Sony Sreejith and Jacob George who won the Act as a Librarian Challenge, Kangan Aggarwal whose artistic skills paid dividends in the book mark contest and China Nichols, Maha Tazi, Meryem Elalaoui, Amina Mahmood, Aemen Ayesha and Tasneem whose hot-footedness ensured they were winners of the book relay race. The week culminated in a prize giving ceremony attended by alumnus and guest of honour Viacheslav Shakhov who is an Associate Consultant at global recruitment firm Morgan McKinley. Introduced by UOWD’s Library Committee Chair Dr Swapna Koshy, Director of Administration and Strategy Mr Brett Lovegrove and Library Services Manager Ms Saba Gaffar, Mr Shakhov described how the library was an invaluable tool in improving his knowledge and people skills, components that have had a great impact on his own success. With over 35,000 books, journals, newspapers and DVDs, along with 100,00+ electronic titles, the University’s library is a treasure chest of amazing resources for UOWD’s students and alumni.
