Sunday, 01 March, 2015
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is celebrating a season of sporting success which has most recently seen Dubai’s oldest private university bring home five trophies from Heriot Watt’s annual Scottish Highland Games.Skillful performances by the men’s cricket team, both male and female basketball teams and both volleyball teams highlighted UOWD’s sporting prowess over the course of the seven day festival which was held at the Scottish University’s Academic City Campus and attended by ten of Dubai’s top universities.Nail biting finals against Amity University and Herriot Watt saw UOWD’s male cricket team and the female volleyball team crowned champions respectively, whilst close-run matches for the male volleyball team and both basketball teams led to UOWD’s collection of second-place trophies grow.Commenting on UOWD’s performance, Medi Zahedian, UOWD’s Sports Coordinator, said: “The sports field success comes on the back of a recent medal haul for our teams at the BITS Pilani University Sports Festival and UOWD’s Sports Festival. The teams are in excellent form as they prepare for the forthcoming Skyline Inter-University Sports Festival, Manipal University Sports Festival and Middlesex University Sports Festival. It’s looking to be a great season for UOWD.”
