On the evening of Thursday, March 31, UOWD participated in the Small Worlds event at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. This was a charity initiative under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan and part of the Education without Borders conference.
Over 25 countries participated with a stall to display the culture and food of each country. Many were organised by Business Councils and Embassies.
UOWD represented Australia on behalf of the Australian Embassy. Alison Oyston and Erin Collis took the lead part in organising UOWDs representation, with a group of UOWD students and some Australian ring-ins who were here for the conference.
The event was a resounding success for UOWD. Alison and Erin and the students did Australia and UOWD proud! The Australian Ambassador was both impressed and grateful. Other Ambassadors were also impressed. Sheikh Nahayan visited our stall and talked with the students and was presented with a koala key-ring and a boomerang. We had many other visitors to the stall, who were curious about the lamingtons, confused by vegemite sandwiches and raved about Tim-Tams!
