Wednesday, 26 January, 2011

A group of UOWD staff and partners attended the annual Australia Day event hosted by the Australian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

About 1,000 guests attended the event, and were entertained by Coffs Harbour Didjeridoo player Kristian Benton and legendary Australian singer Russell Morris. UOWD was represented by Australian (true blue and honorary) Rob Whelan, Raymi van der Spek, Peter Hosie and Cherry, Michael Willemyns and Fira, Brian Lehaney, Zulfi Sama and Roy, and Sandra Lee.

The Ambassador, His Excellency Doug Trappett and the Australian Minister for Veterans' Affairs and for Defence Science and Personnel, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP both addressed the crowd, drew attention to the massive recovery effort that has already begun as a result of recent floods, and thanked key sponsors of the event including UOWD.
