The University of Wollongong in Dubai conducted two Orientation and Enrolment events on 14 September (for new undergraduate students) and on 19th September (for new postgraduate students) joining the University in the 2010 Autumn semester. The events were organised to introduce the new students and their parents to the University and to help them complete the necessary formalities required for enrolment.
Professor Mohamed Khalifa, Vice President (Academic) welcomed students and parents to the University community. He also thanked and congratulated the parents for selecting UOWD as the preferred institution of higher education for their children. The presentation to students was conducted by Kasica Fernandes from the Registry, who explained the enrolment process. Franky Barretto, Acting Manager, Student Services introduced UOWD services such as UniShop, the Career Services, Student Academic Support, Counselling, Health Centre, Sports & Recreation, Transport, and the Library, while Joseph Aninias, Manager, ITTS, spoke on the various IT services offered by his area. Dr. Daniel Kratochvil, Manager, and Joice Priya, from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) explained the various student experience surveys undertaken by OIE and encouraged the new students to participate and provide feedback in the important continuous improvement processes at UOWD.
The parents presentation was conducted by Jay Jayatilaka, Manager Marketing and External Relations. Parents were briefed about UOWDs strengths, policies, faculty, student services, employment opportunities, and graduate outcomes. A lively Question & Answer session followed, focusing on academic and curriculum issues, University accreditation, scholarships, and UOWDs transportation services.
