Dr Benharref is an Associate Professor and the Program Leader for the Bachelor of Information Technology Management and the Bachelor of Computer Science degree programs at the University of Wollongong in Dubai.
He obtained his PhD in Computer Engineering from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada and also holds a Master’s degree in Network and Telecommunication from ENSIAS / University of Montreal and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Caddi Ayyad University, Morocco, along with university teaching certificates from Concordia University and Université du Québec à Montreal, Montreal, Canada.
Dr Benharref teaches on the Bachelor of Computer Science degree program. He teaches a broad range of computer science courses including programming (all levels, C/C++ and Java), operating systems, systems development, network security, distributed systems, as well as supervising students in their capstone projects. His student centric teaching approach is designed to favour learning through pragmatic realisation of theoretical content.
Dr Benharref’s research interests include mobile applications, ehealth applications, web services, and distributed systems. He collaborates with researchers from many universities in the UAE, Canada, and the USA. He is a member of the IEEE and IEEE Computer Society, and has been for many years.
INDUSTRY AND CONSULTING
Prior to his tenure at UOWD, Dr Benharref held industry positions with Ericsson Montreal and SAP Labs in Canada. His roles at Ericsson included the design and the implementation of a third-party and independent platform for quality management of web services. At SAP Labs, his main duties included supervision of research students and contribution in elaborating a platform that would facilitate the portability of business intelligence into mobile platforms. In terms of consultancy, Dr Benharref is able to consult on mobile computing, Service Oriented Architecture, Cloud computing, network and protocol design, and networks security. As a solution architect, he is also an expert in designing and implementing end-to-end solutions that consist of open and emerging standard technologies.
