Tech-G Summer Camp for Girls at UOWD

Conceptualized and founded in 2016 by Dr Zeenath Reza Khan, based on her research and tried and tested model of engaging girls successfully towards STEM education career, Tech-G Summer Camp is the first such initiative in the UAE that targets female students specifically. Moreover, Dr. Khan is joined this year by Dr. Mai El Barachi, as event Co-Chair. Dr. El Barachi is an advocate of girls' education in STEAM majors, and has contributed this year with the design of new workshops and practical activities that are meant to give young girls a flavour of science, technology, and maths.

“In order to defeat the implicit bias against girls in this field, we need explicit actions,” says Dr Khan.

Tech-G Summer Camp is just such an action. The camp has been designed to provide a condensed yet pedagogically sound, interactive, exposure to the STE(A)M curricula, method of teaching and careers for female students from schools around the UAE. The workshops are designed by STEM experts, conducted  by STEM students and Alumni of UOWD or by leading STEM industry female role models such as the Education team from World Wildlife Fund who supported the camp in 2017. The camp is also regularly supported by the Wo-Gi Foundation, an online initiative that supports women and girls empowerment.
