What is Finance?
Money is the driving force that gives wings to your dreams, hinders or magnifies your happiness, and dictates the quality of your life. The term finance can be defined as the art and science of managing money which includes activities such as investing, borrowing, lending, budgeting, saving and forecasting. Finance deals with how and why a person, business or government acquires the money and how they spend or invest that money.
The study of finance deals with three sets of problems:
- Saving and investment decisions by households
- Investment and financing decisions by corporates
- The role of securities markets and financial intermediaries to enable the flow of money through the economy
‘Wall Street Boot Camp- Fundamentals of Finance’ course serves as an introduction to the core concepts in finance (money) management. It covers:
- The fundamental concepts of corporate finance (finance manager's role in obtaining and allocating funds)
- Principal functions of financial markets and financial institutions
- Time value of money & the notion of compound interest
- Use of applications of financial principles, models, and strategies to build a successful career in finance and in business
- Opportunities offered by financial markets while also gaining practical tools and ideas on how to manage your own money effectively (personal finance)
- Acquisition of skills in modern valuation techniques, including the pricing of fixed-income securities (Bonds) and equities (Stocks)
- Critical appraisal of the balance between personal and social responsibility for financial well-being
This course is designed for individuals who want to build their career and improve their job prospects in the field of finance and have a desire to acquire and master personal financial well-being.
Career Opportunities
Finance graduates have a wide range of career paths that can include: government, consulting and industry. They typically become Finance Manager, Financial Planner, Financial Controller, Treasurer, Investment Manager, Wealth Manager and Chief Financial Officer.
