Student Visa Sponsorship

If you are an international, non-resident student looking to study at UOWD, the University is able to provide you with a sponsored student visa, enabling you to study and reside in the UAE.

Sponsorship from UOWD means that you can arrive in the UAE on an international student visa, valid for a period of 12 months and renewable according to the duration of your study program. Non-nationals who are resident in the UAE are also eligible to apply for a visa once they are aged 15.

UOWD visa sponsorship is only available for students who enrol on a full-time basis. For programs of less than 12 months, or for attendance at the graduation ceremony, the University may be able to apply for short-term (30 days) or long-term (90 days) visas for students.

Applying for a Visa

Sponsorship procedures can only begin when you have accepted an unconditional offer of a place at UOWD and have paid all fees due as per you Letter of Offer. Please refer to the Visa Sponsorship Procedures for further information.

To apply for visa sponsorship, you will need to submit a completed Visa Application Form along with the following documentation to the Student Recruitment Office:

  • A clear colour passport copy (with minimum 6 months validity)
  • 5 passport size photos
  • A receipt for the payment of visa and tuition fees
  • A copy of your current visa (if you are inside the UAE)
  • A copy of your unconditional offer letter

You will need to pay the full cost of the student visa, which includes a refundable deposit of AED 2,500. The fees, which cover UOWD visa sponsorship and health insurance, are outlined in the Student Visa Cost page.

Please note that from November 2011, all students on a University-sponsored visa are required to have a valid Emirates ID card. Please see the Emirates ID page for further information.

Visa applications that are rejected will incur costs associated with the visa application process. Please refer to the Visa Sponsorship Policy for further information.

Please note: Students arriving in the UAE on a tourist or service visa must exit the country in order to validate the student visa once issued.

Cancellation/ Renewal of Visas

Students who wish to terminate their studies prior to the expiry of the visa will have their UOWD sponsored visa cancelled immediately. In these circumstances, the student would need to make arrangements to leave the country or seek other forms of sponsorship.

For more information on this and for details about the visa renewal process, please consult the Visa Sponsorship Procedures.
