UOWD High School Summer Camp

Discover, learn and experience university life

UOWD High School Summer Camp gives students the chance to explore future fields of study through hands-on activities, practical projects, and sessions led by university academics.

Students can take part in one of five camps: Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Media, or Psychology. Each camp introduces students to practical skills, current tools, and real-world ideas connected to fast-changing industries and future career pathways.

Business Camp

Building Skills to Manage Business

Explore how businesses grow and what it takes to lead one.

This camp introduces students to the essentials of growing a business, from generating ideas to using technology, AI, and data to support smarter decisions.

Through practical activities and group challenges, students will build critical thinking, decision-making, and entrepreneurial skills that are useful for future study and career pathways in business, management, and entrepreneurship.

Students will learn how to:

  • Generate and prototype new business ideas
  • Use AI and data analytics to make smarter decisions
  • Build marketing strategies for digital platforms
  • Develop practical business and entrepreneurial thinking skills

Computer Science Camp

Future Tech Innovators: AI, Cybersecurity, Game Development & VR

Explore the technologies shaping the digital future.

This Computer Science Camp introduces students to some of today’s most relevant digital fields, including artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, 3D animation, game development, and virtual reality.

Students will explore AI fundamentals, program robotic systems, create digital designs, build interactive experiences, and learn essential cybersecurity practices. Each session connects practical learning with real-world technology applications and future career possibilities in the digital sector.

Ideal for: High school students interested in computer science, emerging technologies, coding, digital creation, cybersecurity, or future tech careers.

Students will learn how to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of AI and robotics
  • Explore cybersecurity awareness and online safety practices
  • Create 3D models and animations using professional software
  • Design interactive games and explore virtual reality
  • Work collaboratively on hands-on technology projects

Engineering Camp

Engineering in Action: Robotics, Circuits & Digital Fabrication

Explore how engineers use technology to solve real-world problems.

This Engineering Camp provides students with a hands-on introduction to Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, and Mechatronics Engineering.

Students will explore how different engineering fields connect to solve practical challenges. They will engage with current technologies by programming mobile robots and robotic arms, designing and troubleshooting circuits, using 3D printers and laser cutters, and exploring Civil Engineering laboratory facilities.

The camp helps students better understand how engineering skills are applied in real settings and what future study or career pathways in engineering could look like.

Ideal for: High school students interested in AI, robotics, engineering, design, problem-solving, or future engineering majors.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Understand core concepts of intelligent robotic systems
  • Code and deploy software for mobile robots
  • Apply digital fabrication tools to design projects
  • Construct and test basic electronic circuits

Media Camp

Media Making: Storytelling & Creative Production

Turn everyday ideas into screen-based stories.

This hands-on Media Camp introduces students to the creative production process, from developing an idea and planning a storyboard to filming and editing a short screen-based story.

Working in a professional media studio, students will collaborate in teams to create their own short film while gaining practical experience in contemporary media production. The camp offers a clear introduction to the skills used in media, film, digital content, and creative production careers.

Ideal for: High school students interested in media, film, cinema, media production, creative production, storytelling, or design.

Students will learn how to:

  • Understand the creative production process, including pre-production, production, and post-production
  • Work in a professional media studio environment
  • Operate video production equipment
  • Edit video using industry-standard software
  • Apply storytelling and storyboarding techniques to create a short film

Psychology Camp

Meet Your Mind: A Practical Guide

Understand your mind and build tools for real-life challenges.

This Psychology Camp introduces students to how the mind works, why self-doubt and difficult emotions can feel overwhelming, and how to make clearer choices under pressure.

Drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Training and evolutionary psychology, the camp translates evidence-based psychological research into practical tools students can use during exam season, friendships, setbacks, and everyday moments when their own thinking gets in the way.

The camp also gives students a practical introduction to how psychology can be applied in real life, while helping them explore whether psychology could be a future study or career interest.

Ideal for: High school students interested in psychology, human behaviour, wellbeing, and how evidence-based psychological research can be applied to everyday life.

Students will learn how to:

  • Understand why the brain worries, evaluates, and predicts the worst
  • Sit with stress, nerves, and self-doubt without being overwhelmed
  • Create space between a thought and a reaction
  • Get clear on what genuinely matters to them
  • Build a practical toolkit for exam stress, social pressure, setbacks, and self-doubt
