- Dr Muhabie Mekonnen Mengistu
Dr Muhabie Mekonnen Mengistu is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai. He obtained his PhD from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Dr Muhabie has a broad range of experience in teaching Financial Accounting, Auditing, Accounting Information System, Taxation, Banking and Finance, and Business Finance. He utilizes interactive pedagogical techniques to motivate and engage students in the classroom. He further enhances students’ learning by engaging them in projects that address emerging industry practices and technological advancements. His PhD student works on AI in Accounting.
His research interest include financial accounting, bank accounting, sustainability reporting, corporate finance, and fintech. He has published in A* accounting journals, including Contemporary Accounting Research, and several of his other research papers are under review at top accounting journals. He has presented his research work in numerous reputable international conferences – AAA, EAA, AFAANZ, etc. He served as an Ad-hoc reviewer for various peer reviewed international journals and conferences such as The Accounting Review, European Accounting Review, Journal of Contemporary Accounting & Economics, and China Accounting and Finance Review, American Accounting Association, etc.
Prior to joining UOWD, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow and PhD program administrative assistant at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Assistant Professor II at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
Dr Muhabie has been awarded the prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme and the African Union Masters Scholarship. He is also a CPA, and in recognition of his research excellence, he was honoured with the 2024 High Potential Researcher Award by University of Wollongong in Dubai.

- CPA Australia: Dr Muhabie is a member of CPA (Certified Practising Accountant) Australia, one of the world's largest professional accounting bodies. The CPA designation is a highly respected qualification in accounting and finance.

Dr Muhabie specialises in teaching a range of accounting subjects. The subjects he taught include:

In his teaching, Dr Muhabie integrates data analytics tools such as STATA and SAS, along with accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, and other relevant applications.
