- Dr Kamal Jaafar
Dr Kamal Jaafar is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, where he has taught and researched for twenty years. He is a structural engineer by training, with a PhD and MPhil from the University of Cambridge, and holds an MBA and the Certified Project Director credential.
His research applies artificial intelligence, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital twins to construction, infrastructure and engineering project management. He leads funded projects with government and industry partners, including two Dubai Future Foundation RDI grants for an AI platform for construction project governance. In 2025 he received the UOW Research Excellence and Scholarly Impact Award and the GDI2025 Intelligent Futures Award.
He directed UOWD’s Master of Engineering Management from 2009 to 2019. Alongside academia, he advises energy, infrastructure and technology organisations, including ADNOC, Kuwait Oil Company, Baker Hughes, CPECC and Sungrow Power, on project management and digital transformation.
