UOWD Welcomed 45 School Counsellors from the UAE, GCC, and Africa
Tuesday, 25 November, 2025
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) recently hosted 45 school counsellors from the UAE, GCC countries, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar, as well as from several African nations represented through the Enko Education Group. The visit took place as part of the BMI GlobalEd | Times Higher Education School Counsellors Forum, offering participants direct insight into our academic environment, facilities, and student experience.
During the visit, we welcomed counsellors into key academic and student areas, where they explored specialist facilities and met with university staff member. Conversations focused on student preparedness, academic pathways, and the support structures available across different stages of the university journey.
The programme included two Professional Development sessions delivered on campus under the Times Higher Education Counsellor Accreditation Program (The CAP). The workshops, titled “Collective Insights: Mentoring Space for Counsellors,” provided a structured space for participants to reflect on leadership, counselling practices, and the shared challenges experienced across different educational systems.
Participants represented institutions such as the American British Academy in Oman, The British School Muscat, Qatar International School, several Enko Education Group schools across Africa, Bayan Gardens School in Saudi Arabia, and the American Baccalaureate School in Kuwait. Local representation included GEMS New Millennium Al Khail, GEMS Winchester School, Cambridge International School Dubai, GEMS World Academy Abu Dhabi, Our Own English High School, Uptown International School, Greenfield International School, Al Dhafra Schools, and Future International Private School Al Ain.
“School counsellors play an essential role in guiding students as they navigate their options for higher education. Hosting this group allowed us to engage directly with those on the front line of student advising and to strengthen the collaborative relationships that support informed pathways for learners,” said Valeryia Atroshanka, UOWD Schools Relationship Manager.
The visit concluded with an off-campus networking dinner, which offered additional time for open discussion and professional exchange. The day supported constructive dialogue between counsellors and our academic teams, while also providing a clearer understanding of the learning environment and support systems available to students.
We extend our thanks to all participating counsellors and partner schools for their engagement throughout the programme.
