“Everything in the world ultimately begins and succeeds with people. Building systems that help people and organisations grow is what gives my work meaning.” – Hongyu Niu
A Chinese alumna of UOWD and a Master of Business graduate with Distinction in Human Resource Management, is the CEO and Founder of JetNova Technology HR Consultancy, supporting organisations across the GCC with people-centred workforce solutions.
For UOWD alumna Hongyu Niu, human resources has never been just a profession. It has been a way of thinking about leadership, growth, and long-term value. From senior corporate HR leadership to founding her own consultancy in the Middle East, her career reflects a steady progression shaped by structure, discipline, and a people-centred vision.
Hongyu graduated in 2024 with a Master of Business with Distinction in Human Resource Management from the University of Wollongong in Dubai. Today, she is the CEO and Founder of JetNova Technology HR Consultancy, supporting regional and international organisations across the GCC with recruitment, workforce solutions, and compliance advisory.
Before stepping into entrepreneurship, Hongyu held the role of Group HR Director for a diversified group operating across 35 subsidiaries. In this position, she supported international operations spanning Germany, China, Saudi Arabia, Africa, and the UAE, and contributed to scaling the organisation’s workforce from around 100 to over 500 employees. Her leadership built on earlier multinational experience with Huawei, strengthening her ability to navigate complex organisational and cultural environments.
Establishing her own consultancy marked a defining transition in her career. What began as deep corporate expertise evolved into a business focused on helping organisations build sustainable people systems. For Hongyu, founding JetNova was not about leaving corporate HR behind, but about applying its lessons at a broader, more strategic level.
Her decision to pursue a career in human resources was driven by conviction. She believes that organisations thrive when people are placed at the centre and supported by thoughtful structures. Human resources, she explains, allows her to work at the intersection of strategy and human development, creating systems that enable both businesses and individuals to grow over the long term.
One of the earliest challenges she faced in her career was working professionally in English, which was not her first language. While this initially affected her confidence, she addressed it through consistent practice and self-discipline. She credits her studies at UOWD with strengthening her professional foundation, particularly through structured thinking, analytical rigour, and a clear understanding of human resource management. These skills supported her transition into leadership roles with confidence and clarity.
Reflecting on her time at university, Hongyu highlights the practical and adaptive teaching approach as one of her most positive experiences. Lecturers brought complex concepts to life through engaging methods, including real-world demonstrations of how AI is trained using data. The learning environment was flexible and thoughtful, with professors who understood how to guide students with different learning styles, making the experience both effective and memorable.
Looking ahead, Hongyu’s focus is firmly global. Her ambition is to grow JetNova into a scalable international platform that connects organisations and talent across regions and cultures, supported by the responsible application of technology and AI. Over the next five years, she aims to position the company for long-term scalable growth and international expansion.
For UOWD students preparing to enter the workforce, her advice is clear and grounded: stay curious, remain disciplined, and invest continuously in your ability to learn and adapt. Focus on building strong fundamentals and creating real value rather than chasing quick success. “Every experience,” she says, “will lead either to success or to growth—and both are meaningful.”
