Ahmad Aboud
“Finance is more than numbers. It helps organizations make clearer decisions, grow sustainably, and plan with confidence.” – Ahmad Aboud
Ahmad Aboud is a Master of Business graduate from the University of Wollongong in Dubai, with specializations in Financial Management and International Business, and he is the Group CFO at Ghassan Aboud Holding.
In this role, he leads financial strategies across a diversified international conglomerate, operating at the intersection of structure, growth, and long-term decision-making. Furthermore, he holds board memberships across all Group entities within across the UAE and Australia and plays a pivotal role in steering the organization's investment and divestment mandates.
For Ahmad, the appeal of finance started with something simple: curiosity. Not just about numbers, but about what they reveal. Early on, he recognized that behind every decision, every expansion, every success or setback, there was a financial story shaping the outcome. That realization gave direction to his career and continues to define how he approaches his work today. “I have always viewed finance as the language of business,” Ahmad explains. “It provides the structure and foresight organizations need to grow sustainably”.
What became clear over time was that understanding finance is only the starting point. Applying it at a strategic level requires a different kind of thinking.
After graduating from UOWD in 2019, Ahmad entered roles that demanded more than technical precision. They required perspective. Moving from a technical accounting mindset into a strategic business role meant learning how to connect financial insight with broader organizational goals. It meant contributing to decisions that shaped direction, not just reporting performance.
That shift was intentional. Ahmad sought mentorship, expanded his exposure, and leaned on the foundation built during his Master of Business at UOWD. The program had already equipped him with a structured way of thinking and a global perspective, which proved essential as he stepped into more complex responsibilities. It trained him to see organizations as interconnected systems, where financial decisions influence operations, people, and long-term outcomes. The experience also strengthened his ability to lead cross-functional teams across multicultural business environments while building the resilience and professional relationships essential for executive leadership.
Among Ahmad’s fondest memories at UOWD were the intellectual debates with classmates from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. Combined with late-night group projects and the support of faculty members, these experiences helped shape both his perspective and leadership approach.
Today, as Group CFO of Ghassan Aboud Holding, Ahmad operates at the center of high-impact decisions. One of his most significant contributions has been leading the financial integration of multiple high-value acquisitions across local and international markets. These moments require more than financial oversight. They demand alignment across systems, teams, and strategies, often under tight timelines and significant pressure.
At the same time, he has played a key role in advancing the Group’s digital transformation and diversification efforts. His work focuses on ensuring that financial strategy supports innovation while maintaining stability, a balance that is critical in a rapidly evolving business environment.
That progression has not come without its challenges.
Early in his career, balancing demanding professional responsibilities with rigorous academic commitments pushed him to his limits. The pace was intense, and the expectations were high. “It was overwhelming,” he reflects. “But I kept coming back to the bigger picture.”. Focusing on long-term growth helped him move through that period with clarity and resilience.
Today, that perspective continues to guide him.
Ahmad is driven by the pursuit of excellence and the desire to build something that lasts. Professionally, this means contributing to organizations in a way that creates sustained value. Personally, it means continuing to learn and lead in a way that others can rely on. Whether within his team or his family, he is conscious of the responsibility that comes with leadership and of being a role model for those around him.
Outside of work, he prioritizes time with family and close friends as a way to stay grounded. He is an avid reader of economic history, a reflection of his interest in how systems evolve over time. Fitness also plays an important role in his routine, offering both discipline and mental clarity.
Looking ahead, Ahmad aims to continue driving sustainable growth within Ghassan Aboud Holding while contributing to the UAE’s broader economic vision as a financial thought leader. He is also committed to mentoring the next generation of professionals, helping them prepare for a future shaped by automation, data, data-driven decision-making, and constant change.
His advice to UOWD students entering the workforce is straightforward: “Stay curious. Build genuine relationships. Approach every challenge as an opportunity to learn. Technical skills are essential, but empathy and communication are what allow you to lead effectively.
Because in the end, finance may be the language of business, but it is people who give it purpose.
