Mr Robert Ryan (Chair)

Robert Ryan is currently the Chief Executive of IMB Ltd, one of Australia’s largest mutual banks. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he held the positions of Deputy Chief Executive, Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of IMB.

In 2018 he was appointed to the role of Deputy Chancellor of the University of Wollongong and is a member of UOW Council and Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee. He is also a Director and Chair of the Governance Committee of Australian Settlements Limited and Director and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee of The Flagstaff Group.

Prior to joining IMB, Robert held the positions of Managing Director at Australian Resources Limited.

Professor Joe Chicharo

Prof Joe Chicharo OM

Professor Joe Chicharo OM, is the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wollongong. He joined the University of Wollongong in 1985 as a Lecturer within the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. Prior to this appointment Joe spent ten years working in the steel industry (BHP).  He has a distinguished academic and research track record having published over 200 refereed papers in prestigious journals and conferences. His research contributions are well cited and he has been the recipient of a number of best paper prizes such as the IEEE. He has been highly successful in attracting nationally competitive research grants as well as substantial industry sponsorship for research work at UOW.

Professor Joe Chicharo was awarded an Order of Merit (Portugal) (OM) in the 2007 Honours list to honour distinguished services in the public and private sphere.

Professor Alex Frino

Prof Alex Frino

Professor Alex Frino is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Strategy) of the University of Wollongong. A distinguished international financial economist, he is an alumnus of UOW and Cambridge University, and a former Fulbright Scholar. He is one of the best-published financial economists in the world with over 100 papers in leading scholarly journals.

He was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre Limited – a $100 million research installation funded by the Australian Federal Government and partnering with 20 major global financial corporations. He has held visiting academic positions at leading Universities in Italy, New Zealand, the UK and the United States. He has also held positions with leading financial market organisations including the Sydney Futures Exchange, Credit Suisse and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in the USA.

Marisa Mastroianni

Ms Marisa Mastroianni

Marisa Mastroianni is Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of UOW Enterprises. Marisa is an experienced CEO and non-executive Director. Previously Marisa has held senior financial and executive roles the in the maritime, health, retirement and aged care sectors.

Marisa currently serves on the Boards of NRMA Ltd and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Board. She is Chair of NRMA’s Audit & Risk Management Committee.

Prof Mohamed-Vall Mohamed-Salem

Prof Mohamed-Vall Mohamed-Salem

Professor Mohamed-Vall Mohamed-Salem was appointed President of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) in January 2015, a role that sees him focused on driving initiatives to strengthen the position of UOWD as a leading academic institution in the UAE and the wider region. Professor Salem initially joined UOWD in 2004 and has since worked alongside the 320 employee-strong staff body in a number of leadership roles, including as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences and a ten-month period as Acting President of the University.

Professor Mohamed Salem received his PhD from the University of Montreal (Canada) in 2002 and is a recipient of IBM’s Centre for Advanced Studies PhD fellowship and the “Bourse d’excellence de la Francophonie” from the Canadian International Development Agency.

H.E. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr

H.E. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr
Director General at Smart Dubai Office

H.E. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr is Director General of the Smart Dubai Office, the government entity entrusted with Dubai’s city-wide smart transformation by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. H.E. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr also leads the creation of ‘The Smart City Index’ - the first-ever benchmark for smart city implementation across the globe in cooperation with ITU and the United Nations. As an acclaimed digital transformation and Smart Cities thought leader globally, she represents Smart Dubai in City Protocol Society, Smart City Expo World Congress and GSMA. In addition to her responsibilities at Smart Dubai Office, H.E. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr serves as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Councils; The Fourth Industrial Revolution’s smart cities readiness index team; and the World Happiness Council where she heads The Council of Happy Cities. She is also a Non-Executive Director at Emaar Properties, and was elevated to its Board in 2017. H.E. Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr holds a PhD in Management, Science, Technology and Innovation and an MPhil in Policy and Research on Engineering, Science and Technology from The Manchester Business School. She is also a graduate of the ‘young leaders’ program organized by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Leadership Development.

 

 

Manal AlBayat

Chief Community Engagement Officer
Expo 2020 Dubai

Manal AlBayat is Chief Community Engagement Officer at Expo 2020 Dubai. She is responsible for driving excitement, ownership and active participation across the domestic population, both Emirati and expatriate.

Manal's key responsibilities include overseeing the development and delivery of a variety of public events, outreach activities, direct engagement opportunities, and traditional and digital campaigns that will excite and engage the nation, from government officials and business leaders, to university students, children and families.

Prior to joining the team at Expo 2020 Dubai, Manal was Group CEO at Falcon and Associates where she worked with both the public and private sectors to enhance Dubai's positioning on the world stage. At Falcon, she led the Marketing and Communications efforts for the UAE's successful bid to host Expo 2020 in Dubai. Her role included directing events, international and regional engagement, and facilitating partnerships.

Her international experience includes roles at Gulf International Bank in Bahrain and Bank One in the United States.

Manal holds an MBA from DePaul University with a focus on Marketing and Change Management and a Bachelor's degree in Organisational Management from Purdue University.

Manal has spoken on panels across the globe on a wide range of topics including business development, the role of women in the economy and enabling human capital to achieve its potential in the public and private sectors.
