About

The AI Strategy Lab at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is an applied learning and engagement initiative housed within the School of Business. Developed in collaboration with Gravity One, the AI Strategy Lab connects UOWD’s teaching and research strengths with real organizational challenges, with a particular focus on capstone and live-project work.

The AI Strategy Lab provides a structured space where students, faculty, and industry partners collaborate on well-defined strategy and transformation problems. The emphasis is on practical capability building: students work on real briefs linked to their capstone projects, and partner organizations benefit from carefully scoped insights and solution pathways that can be tested and implemented beyond the Lab setting.

At its core, the Lab supports UOWD’s applied academic model by integrating capstone projects, program-embedded industry engagements, and practice-oriented research. The work of the AI Strategy Lab centers on themes such as AI-enabled strategy execution, responsible adoption of AI in organizations, and AI-driven business transformation. These themes are pursued through projects and learning formats that prioritize rigor, relevance, and clearly defined outcomes.

The collaboration between UOWD and Gravity One is built around a shared focus on leadership development and workforce readiness for AI-driven change. Through this partnership, the AI Strategy Lab supports co-designed learning experiences and project pipelines that help students and professionals build confidence in using AI strategically and responsibly in real decision environments.

Within the School of Business, the Lab strengthens innovation and entrepreneurship learning by serving as a channel for live briefs into capstone and other applied courses. Students engage with real organizations to diagnose strategic issues, explore AI-enabled alternatives, and develop implementable recommendations. This approach helps students practice strategy execution in contexts where AI and data-driven decision making are increasingly central.

In parallel, the AI Strategy Lab supports MBA-level and executive capability building through carefully designed learning modules and applied workshops. These offerings focus on helping leaders integrate AI into strategy, govern AI-related risks, and make high-stakes decisions in hybrid human–AI environments. Delivered either within degree programs or as executive learning formats, this work is aimed at building practical leadership confidence rather than abstract awareness.

The Lab also enables applied research that is closely linked to teaching priorities and partner needs. Faculty and practitioners collaborate on frameworks, cases, and project-based studies that inform both classroom delivery and organizational practice. The intent is to generate useful, evidence-informed insights that directly strengthen learning and implementation.

Finally, the AI Strategy Lab contributes to workforce capacity building through targeted skill development aligned with UAE priorities. By working with industry and public sector partners, the AI Strategy Lab supports learning pathways that strengthen readiness to plan, govern, and execute AI-driven business transformation in real-world settings.

Overall, the AI Strategy Lab at UOWD is focused on practical outcomes: stronger capstone impact, clearer MBA-level capability in AI strategy and AI-augmented leadership, and meaningful workforce skill building for AI-enabled transformation. The partnership with Gravity One helps ensure these outcomes stay grounded in current organizational needs and real implementation challenges.

Objectives

• Strengthen capstone and live-project impact: Use the AI Strategy Lab to anchor student capstone and applied projects in real organizational briefs, ensuring clear learning and solution outcomes.
• Build MBA capability in AI strategy and AI-augmented leadership: Deliver applied learning experiences that help MBA participants lead strategy and decision making in AI-enabled environments.
• Develop workforce capacity in AI-driven business transformation: Provide targeted skill-building pathways for professionals to plan, govern, and execute AI-enabled transformation responsibly.
• Advance applied research linked to teaching and partner needs: Co-produce practice-relevant frameworks and cases on AI strategy execution, governance, and transformation that feed directly into curriculum and engagement work.
• Support national talent development priorities: Contribute to Emiratisation and inclusive leadership goals through applied learning opportunities and capability-building partnerships delivered via the AI Strategy Lab.

Vision

To be a credible academic–industry platform for AI strategy and AI-driven business transformation in the UAE, developing graduates, executives, and professionals who can apply AI responsibly to strategic and organizational challenges.
