Moataz Kamel
“Being part of a team that is able to make a positive difference in the world is absolutely inspiring to me.” – Moataz Kamel
An accomplished academic and talented tech enthusiast, Moataz is pursuing his lifelong passion for computing in a senior role with global technology giant, Microsoft.
Moataz Kamel’s obsession with coding and computers started when he was just 11 years old and it’s this passion that continues to drive his career ambitions to this day. As a Senior Customer Success Account Manager for Microsoft in Canada, Moataz is helping large enterprise leverage technology to drive successful digital transformation, enhance their business performance, and deliver better value to their customers.
A highly accomplished academic, Moataz had four degrees to his name. He holds a PhD from the University of Leicester, an MBA from Rushmore University, and a Bachelor of Engineering from Helwan University, but it is his Master of Information Technology Management from UOWD that he cites as the most rewarding experience of his career.
Moataz says, “Being able to obtain an international postgraduate degree from UOWD as a side hustle while pursuing my challenging career was very rewarding. My time at UOWD was undoubtedly a life-changing experience for me, both academically and professionally. I truly believe that the MITM program offered world-class learning quality. It paved the way for me to achieve many of my dreams, from joining various multinational technology giants to getting accepted in a PhD program.”
When he first started out on his career path Moataz faced the challenge of finding his way in a tough international marketplace, which is one of the reasons he believes higher education is so important. Moataz says, “In today’s globalised, connected, and highly competitive job market, employers have access to candidates from all over the world, and their expectations have become much higher. While skills, attitude, and networking still matter the most, having the right qualifications helps candidates gain more visibility and increases their chances of being considered.”
Reflecting on his standout moments at UOWD, Moataz recalls, “The times spent with friends were some of my fondest memories. While studying at UOWD, I was introduced to some of the best people I met in my entire life and we continue to be real friends until this day. Moreover, studying at UOWD was an incredible opportunity for networking and building my professional and personal network.”
He continues, “The research component of the program especially prepared me for my subsequent academic studies, and helped me establish a successful academic profile, with several research papers published in first-tier academic journals. I especially fell in love with the magnificent UOW e-library, which really served as a gateway to a world of endless human knowledge. I believe that the most valuable skill I learned from studying at UOWD was the enhanced ability to apply critical thinking, adopt a growth mentality, and work on complex problems as a member of a team.”
A tenacious risk-taker, Moataz lives by the motto, “There is a 50% chance of success if you try. There is a 100% chance of failure if you don’t.” He reveals, “I seldom leave any opportunities unexplored, or any stones unturned. Sometimes I regret turning those stones, but I think this is better than missing out on potential opportunities. In the end, not every endeavor that we undertake ends up being fruitful, but you’ll never know what works until you try. Right?”
Taking pride in his achievements to date, Moataz says, “The most inspiring aspect of my job is seeing the positive impact of my organisation’s work on individuals, communities, and even entire economies. I am also especially proud of the fact that I wake up every day to do something that I love.”
Looking to the future, Moataz concludes, “Ambition is endless, and the sky is the limit. I am very grateful for what I have accomplished for myself and my family so far, but as I gain more experience and seniority, I aspire to obtain a more global role where I will be able to leave a wider impact and work with customers all over the world.”
