Talal El Halabi
“I am a strong believer that the sky is the limit and the opportunities the world offers to us are limitless” – Talal El Halabi
A respected HR leader, Talal’s talent and commitment to the profession has been recognised at each stage of his career, as he has progressed to his current senior role with a multinational conglomerate.
Talented, ambitious and dedicated to his profession, it’s no wonder that just one year after graduating from UOWD, Talal El Halabi was promoted to Senior Director of Human Resources with his firm, Johnson Controls. Applying the knowledge from his Master of Business specialising in Human Resource Management, Talal is now leading the multinational conglomerate’s HR team in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
Asked why he pursued a career in HR, Talal simply says, “because I love it” and as for his success, he believes it’s a combination of continuous learning, dedication, hard work and grabbing every opportunity that comes along. He reveals, “At each stage of my career, I was working hard and at the same time gaining new skills, experiences and knowledge. What’s been most rewarding is the promotions I’ve had in all the companies I worked for as a recognition for my efforts and contribution. I am always keen to develop my skills and competencies and to keep grabbing opportunities – that’s what inspires me.”
With a bachelor degree in Law from Lebanese University and a diploma in HR from the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, alongside his master degree from UOWD, Talal is a firm believer in the importance of tertiary education. He says, “I believe it is like a passport for travelers. We may have a lot of knowledge and experience but without the passport we can’t travel.”
Reflecting on his time at UOWD in particular, Talal recalls, “Overall it was a very pleasant experience. My fondest memories are of meeting new friends and I enjoyed working with my teams on the group assignments. During that time I gained new skills and learnt things that are helping me both in my career and at personal level as well. What I studied remains a great reference to me and I refer to those lessons when required and they are always helpful to me at work.”
Combining his life as a dedicated family man and passionate football fan with the impressive advancements in his career, Talal has gathered a great deal of personal and professional wisdom along the way. He reveals, “There are four key principles that I think have helped me work towards success. Firstly, learning is a continuous process and a lifelong journey, secondly, planning is critical in every aspect of life. Thirdly, I think it’s so important to do what you love – both personally and professionally – and finally, we should always strive for a positive work-life balance.”
Looking to the future, Talal is committed to going even further in his career and taking his past lessons to grow and develop in the HR profession. He concludes, “In both success and failure, I always capture the important lessons I have learnt from each experience and reflect on them for continuous improvement and a better future.”
