- Dr Nkqubela Ruxwana
Dr Nkqubela Ruxwana is a dynamic academic and seasoned IT professional with extensive experience in cybersecurity, governance, risk and compliance (GRC), and digital transformation. He is highly skilled in leading cross-functional teams in research, as well as in designing and implementing complex technology solutions.
He believes that education should not merely keep pace with technological change—but proactively anticipate and shape it. His teaching philosophy is rooted in capability development, empowering students to become critical thinkers, ethical leaders, and agile innovators in an increasingly digital world.
Dr Nkqubela is also a published scholar and has supervised numerous postgraduate theses and research projects across a diverse range of ICT domains. His research interests include business intelligence and data analytics, information security, cloud computing, ICT regulation and governance, IT strategy, enterprise architecture, user experience design, health informatics (e-health), ICT in education, and ICT for development (ICT4D).
Before joining the University of Wollongong in Dubai, Dr Nkqubela held several prominent academic and industry roles. He was a full-time faculty member at the Higher Colleges of Technology in the UAE; a Senior Manager and Principal Researcher/Consultant in Cybersecurity GRC at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa; and previously served as Head of Department and Professor of Information Technology and Information Security at Tshwane University of Technology, also in South Africa.
