- Dr Andjela Bisevac
Dr Andjela Bisevac is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD). She holds a PhD in Literature from Kanagawa University, Japan.
Dr Bisevac’s teaching approach is grounded in the understanding that media meaning is formed before ethical judgement. She encourages students to examine how representation, perception, and technology shape the way reality is constructed in contemporary digital culture. Her classes combine critical theory with practical media analysis, guiding students to look beyond content and consider the systems, structures, and design of communication itself. She fosters reflective, discussion-based learning that develops students’ analytical, ethical, and creative awareness within media environments.
Dr Bisevac’s research bridges media, fashion, architecture, and design through the lenses of semiotics, phenomenology, and posthuman theory. She examines how meaning is produced through surfaces, images, materials, and spatial forms, with particular attention to perception, embodiment, and visual culture. Her work on Alexander McQueen, Japanese aesthetics, and design poetics has been published in international journals across fashion studies, the humanities, and design research. Her current research explores media ethics, representation, and the relationship between design, technology, and human perception.
Prior to joining UOWD, Dr Bisevac completed her doctoral studies at Kanagawa University in Japan, where she also worked as a Teaching Assistant and academic interpreter. She supported courses delivered in both Japanese and English, assisted in academic instruction, and facilitated communication between faculty and international students. In addition to her academic roles, she has experience teaching and working in multilingual and multicultural educational environments across Japan and Europe.
