Honouring Mohamed Ashraf Noureldeen, a Beloved Engineering Graduate at UOWD's Graduation Ceremony
Friday, 01 November, 2024
At the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), our recent graduation ceremony was both a celebration of achievement and a moment of heartfelt reflection. We gathered not only to honour the accomplishments of our graduates but also to pay tribute to one of our own, Mohamed Ashraf Mohamed Noureldeen Ibrahim. Mohamed was a remarkable engineering student whose passion, determination, and kindness left an indelible mark on our community. Though he was tragically unable to join us in person, his spirit was profoundly felt as we celebrated his legacy alongside his peers.
Mohamed completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering at UOWD, embodying the spirit of determination and passion that defines our community.
"Mohamed was an ambitious person who loved cars and motorcycles from a young age," his father shared with a gentle smile. "He became a professional racer. Helping others brought him great happiness; it was just who he was."
Balancing a demanding job in Abu Dhabi with his master's studies in Dubai, Mohamed faced the daunting task of commuting 300 kilometers daily. Despite the exhaustion that such a schedule would bring to anyone, he remained steadfast in his goals.
"His master's studies were not easy," his father recalled. "He had to manage his work, his studies, and that long drive every day. But he approached it all with patience and positivity."
Mohamed's dedication was fuelled by a deep desire to make his mother proud. "He always tried to make his mother proud of him," his father said softly. "She was his supporter all the time, pushing him forward from elementary school until he completed his master's degree."
At the graduation ceremony, faculty members took a moment to remember Mohamed's contributions to the university community. Lab Engineer Majid Munawar spoke fondly of him, saying, "He was one of the most positive students I've ever seen. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he was always my first choice for class activities."
Associate Professor Dr. Assane Lo from the School of Engineering also shared his memories. "I remember Mohamed as a polite and outgoing student," he reflected. "He was dedicated to his studies and had a warm presence that brightened our classrooms. His passing is heartbreaking, and my thoughts are with his family during this difficult time."
Outside of his academic and professional life, Mohamed cherished his family and friends. His love extended to his parents, his sister, and even his beloved dog, Luka. He was the kind of person who made time for others, no matter how busy his own life was.
"Mohamed was the smile and joy in our lives and the lives of everyone around him," his father expressed, his eyes reflecting both pride and sorrow. "He was a source of positive energy. While his smile and joy are gone, his memory will remain forever. We hope his soul rests in peace, and we meet him again in heaven."
The graduation ceremony served as a heartfelt reminder of Mohamed's impact on the UOWD community. His name was called, his achievements acknowledged, and his absence deeply felt. Fellow graduates, faculty, and staff stood in silent tribute, honouring the legacy of a young man who exemplified resilience and compassion.
Mohamed's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the difference one person can make. His journey inspires us to face our own challenges with courage and to support one another along the way.
As we move forward, the memory of Mohamed will continue to inspire the UOWD community. His dedication to his studies, his unwavering positivity, and his love for those around him remind us of the values we strive to uphold.
To Mohamed's Mother, Father, sister, family and friends, we extend our deepest condolences. We are grateful to have been a part of his journey and will carry his spirit with us, letting his example guide and motivate us in the years to come.
