Wednesday, 17 July, 2013
Dr Catherine Todd, Assistant Professor at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), has triumphed in this year’s Badwater Ultramarathon, finishing as the highest placed female amongst a field of elite athletes from across the globe.Renowned as ‘the world’s toughest footrace’, the Badwater Ultramarathon takes competitors over a gruelling 135 mile (217 km) course, from Death Valley – the hottest, driest place in North America – to Mount Whitney, the highest summit of continental United States.Taking part in the race for the second consecutive year, Dr Todd completed this ultimate test of endurance in 29 hours, 55 minutes and 29 seconds, to finish first amongst the race’s female competitors, and beating her previous time by more than six hours. As one of Dr Todd’s sponsors, UOWD contributed to the costs of her support crew and vehicle, which were vital resources throughout the event, providing assistance with nutrition, hydration, and pacing. In the Media:Dubai resident eyes record after taming extreme Badwater Ultramarathon - The NationalDubai woman wins 217km Badwater Ultramarathon in California - Gulf NewsUOWD professor Todd tops - Khaleej TimesDubai-based professor first among women in world's 'toughest footrace' - 7 Days in Abu DhabiUOWD professor is woman’s champion at Badwater Ultramarathon - The Gulf TodayDubai-based professor first among women in world’s ‘toughest… - Dubai InformerDubai professor - woman’s champion of Badwater Ultramathon, 'world's toughest footrace' - ExpatWomen.com
