Dubai Police and RTA officials give demonstrations and offer safety tipsThe University of Wollongong in Dubai in collaboration with RTA , Dubai Police and Emirates Driving Institute organized a Safety Awareness campaign at the university for the benefit of students and staff.The campaign activities included offering awareness messages to students and staff by RTA, Dubai Police and Emirates Driving Institute officials through practical demonstrations.The highlights of the two-day campaign were safety demonstrations with the help of safety exhibits, such as a roll-over car, head restraint and drunken vision goggles.The roll-over car flipped 360 degrees to provide students a head over collision simulation. Students sat in the vehicle mounted on a platform, rotating sideways to demonstrate safety provided by seatbelts. The head restraint showed the importance of saving one’s neck and head in the event of a collision.The dangerous effect of alcohol consumption on driving was demonstrated by ‘drunken vision goggles'. These special goggles give the simulation of a drunken vision and show how it decreases the visual performance of the driver.The campaign saw enthusiastic participation from students while the well trained Emirates Driving Institute (EDI) instructors explained various aspects of driving safety.A total of 434 students and staff members used the roll-over car and discovered the importance of seat belts, while 288 others tried practical tests to feel the effect of drunk drinking and how drivers lose control of the vehicle if fallen asleep.Major Dr Juma Sultan Alshamsi, Head of Awareness & Precaution Department, General Department of Anti Narcotics at Dubai Police, deliver a presentation on Drug awareness at the UOWD Auditorium. It was attended by UOWD President, Prof. Ghassan Aouad, 1st Lieutenant Abdullah Mohammed Al Balooshi from General Department of Community Service at Dubai Police, and UOWD students and staff.‘Safety awareness is one of the most critical elements in modern life. Young men and women especially need to understand basic concepts of safety, particularly while driving,’ said Eduardo Hamzi , Manager UOWD Property and Services Department who organized this campaign. ‘We are grateful to the authorities for organizing these practical demonstrations which gave our students a realistic perspective into safety in general and while driving in particular.’
