The University is dedicated to engaging with the local community and wider society through public lectures, academic events and recreational activities. This dynamic two-way relationship helps communities engage in new activities and allows UOWD to draw support and inspiration from wider society, whilst contributing to the development of Dubai.

Charity events are regularly conducted by the Student Representative Council and Student Services Department to raise funds for local good causes, including the Dubai Centre for Special Needs, Operation Smile and the Al Noor Centre for special needs. As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, the University also hosts a range of charity events including fun activities, entertainment and competitions, often organised by student volunteers. These events provide an opportunity for staff, volunteers and event participants to interact and learn more about each other’s activities.
UOWD’s Innovation Fair is and annual competition that showcases innovative software projects conducted by undergraduate final year students from universities across the UAE. Organised by the UOWD Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, the competition gives talented students the opportunity to secure prestigious internship placements with participating companies.

UOWD’s Mathalon Competition is an annual event aimed at making maths fun. The competition attracts over 170 students from 30 leading schools across the UAE, who compete in a series of team-based activities to demonstrate their proficiency in various aspects of mathematics. Top performing students are awarded a UOWD scholarship, effective on their graduation from high school.

Industry Expert Lecture Series
The UOWD Industry Expert Series is a forum of debate which brings together industry executives from the local community with UOWD faculty members and student representatives, to share the latest theoretical concepts and professional practices that are driving the current business environment.
UOWD’s Robotics Competition is an annual event that brings together students from across the UAE to compete in a series of skills tests. The competition provides primary, middle and high school students with the opportunity to enhance their technical skills by programming autonomous robots to complete a number of tasks. The event attracts over 100 participants, who compete for prizes, including UOWD scholarship opportunities.

Tech-G Winter Camp for Girls
Conceptualized and founded in 2016 by Dr Zeenath Reza Khan, based on her research and tried and tested model of engaging girls successfully towards STEM education career, Tech-G Camp is the first such initiative in the UAE that targets female students specifically. “In order to defeat the implicit bia against girls in this field, we need explicit actions,” says Dr Khan.
