College of Graduate Studies Chair appointed to judge Aviation Business Awards

Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Chair of the College of Graduate Studies at UOWD has been appointed to a panel of distinguished judges for the Aviation Business Awards. The Awards are organised by the international ITP Business group and aimed at recognising individuals and businesses that have made a significant contribution to the aviation industry. 

According to Prof Raed Awamleh, Dean of Academic Affairs at UOWD, “Dr Fernandes’ appointment is a tribute to his standing and leading role in the professional community, and also a major accolade for UOWD as an organisation”. 

Prior to joining UOWD in 2001, Dr Fernandes worked in the airline industry for 12 years and was instrumental in establishing joint ventures around the world. “It is an honour to be part of the Aviation Business Awards. As judges, we have a difficult task ahead in selecting winners from a region that has produced some of the world’s leading organisations in aviation” Dr Fernandes said.

The Awards gala event will be held on November 12, 2007 and is expected to attract more than 250 leading executives and professionals from the region and beyond. A total of 12 awards will be presented in the following categories:

  • Airline of the Year
  • Low-Cost Carrier of the Year
  • Business Jet Provider of the Year
  • MRO Company of the Year
  • In-Flight Services of the Year
  • Airline CEO of the Year
  • Airport of the Year
  • Duty Free of the Year
  • Airport Security Provider of the Year
  • Aviation Technology Provider of the Year
  • Ground Handling Provider of the Year
  • Airport Passenger Handling of the Year
