Dutch cricketers visit UOWD ahead of ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier

The Netherlands cricket team members interacted with UOWD students as part of a build-up to the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 (WT20Q) which will be held at Dubai Sports City from March 13 to 24.Sporting their orange jerseys, Dutch cricketers Stephanus Johannes and Mudasser Bukhari, posed for photographs with the ICC World Twenty20 UAE Qualifier trophy in the UOWD auditorium. The audience consisted of students, including some members of the UOWD cricket team.“As a university committed to promoting all-round development of students’ personality, UOWD attaches great importance to sports,” said Erin Collins, Assistant Manager, Student Services. “We are delighted to give our students an opportunity to interact with cricketers who will be playing at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 from Tuesday.”The players answered a host of questions from the students, and expressed confidence that the Dutch team would win the tournament to join the big league of cricketing nations. The Netherlands is slated to play Canada on March 13 and Afghanistan on March 14.The ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2012 tournament will see 16 teams from across ICC’s five regions competing for the remaining two places at the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012, which will be held from 18 September to 7 October in Sri Lanka.The winner of the UAE Qualifier event will join Group B which includes Australia and West Indies, while the runner-up will join defending champion England and former winner India in Group A.The countries taking part in the UAE Qualifier are Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Namibia, Italy, Oman, Uganda, USA, Bermuda, Denmark, Canada, Netherlands, Hong Kong, Nepal, Kenya and Scotland.
