Inaugural EMBA intake at UOWD will enhance the leadership potential of government and industry

New program will prepare participants to manage complex business challenges in the MENA region The first cohort of the University of Wollongong in Dubai’s (UOWD) Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program commenced this Autumn. Among the selected group of experienced professionals, were two recipients of the prestigious ‘UOWD Executive MBA Women in Leadership Gender Parity Scholarship’, a University initiative supporting the empowerment of women in the UAE to enable them to contribute to the UAE’s vision as senior leaders. The world-class EMBA program will provide these participants with a distinctive learning experience, including an international study tour to equip them with the tools to excel as transformational business leaders in the complex global economy. The first semester commenced with a module on Leadership in a Contemporary Business Environment, which focusses on leadership and strategic alignment challenges that contemporary organisations face during the different stages of growth. As part of the module, industry experts Isil Sahin Oztelcan from Dow Chemicals gave the students a deep insight on the challenges aspiring leaders face in climbing the career ladder, whilst Venkatesh Mahadevan from TechSource provided a thought-provoking lecture on ‘Leading during Non-Linear times - Digital Transformation and beyond’. Dr Mohan Guruswamy, the EMBA Program Director said: “Prospective students were subjected to additional entry requirements including having to demonstrate the professional qualities and personal competencies they perceived they required to succeed in the program”. “This coveted business qualification will enhance and reinforce the leadership skill-set of participants and improve their leadership opportunities while preparing them to take on challenging decision-making roles in the top echelons of the government and private sectors”, he added. The second semester is due to start on 16 November 2017. The University welcomes applications from individuals who have a recognised Bachelor’s degree with at least five years’ experience in a senior management position and who have a strong ambition to further develop and enhance their professional careers.
