University of Wollongong in Dubai and IDP Education partnered to offer IELTS for UKVI testing on campus
Tuesday, 12 July, 2016
The Language Study Centre (LSC) at the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) recently announced that IDP Education – Dubai will be working with the University to offer IELTS in support of United Kingdom Visa and Immigration (UKVI) applications. This partnership provides test takers with more test venue options in Dubai. As a venue partner, LSC will take registration and administer IELTS for the UKVI and Life Skills tests as from July 2016. “IDP Education UAE is continuously working with key partners like UOWD to offer candidates more testing locations and enhanced customer service. “ Said Rashi Bhattacharya, IDP Education Country Director for Gulf. Last year, the UK government’s announcement of new requirements for secure English language testing for visa and immigration purposes had reduced the number of approved tests on the list of Secure English Language Tests (SELT). IELTS (Academic & General Training) and IELTS Life Skills are the only approved English language test available outside the UK for visa and immigration purposes. The type of IELTS test and score required by the individual will depend on the visa requirements and/or the requirements of the institution where they plan to study or work. The format of the IELTS for UKVI test is exactly the same visas the normal IELTS test. This means that the content, examiners, format, scoring and level of difficulty are exactly the same regardless of the test’s purpose. IELTS is the most popular high stake English language proficiency test for non-native English speakers, who intend on studying, working, or living in a country where English is the official language. More than 2.7 million tests were taken last year. Shanae Reed-Njegosevic, Director of LSC at the University said: “The IELTS for UKVI is a great opportunity for the University to address the needs of those individuals with plans to immigrate to the UK. This is especially relevant in the UAE as it is a very transient place with many people spending time here before they permanently migrate to other locations for work or study purposes. Because of the limited authorized testing centres available in the region, being able to provide this service will definitely add value to the local community in terms of time and transport.”
