Monday, 23 December, 2024
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has successfully obtained two key ISO certifications: ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Compliance Assurance Certificate for ISO 31000 Risk Management Guidelines. These certifications reflect UOWD's ongoing commitment to improving safety, enhancing risk management processes, and prioritizing the well-being of our students, staff, and wider community.
Why These Certifications Matter
The ISO 45001 certification demonstrates that we have implemented a structured system to identify and reduce potential health and safety risks on campus. For students, this means measures like:
- Regular safety inspections of facilities, labs, and classrooms to ensure a hazard-free learning environment.
- Emergency preparedness plans, including drills, clear evacuation routes, and first-aid availability.
- Improved infrastructure maintenance to address issues like lighting, ventilation, and ergonomics in classrooms and workspaces.
- Health and safety awareness programs to help students and staff stay informed and proactive.
The Compliance Assurance Certificate for ISO 31000 Risk Management Guidelines focuses on risk management, ensuring that we have effective systems in place to identify challenges, assess their impact, and act proactively. This includes:
- A clear process to anticipate and address risks that could disrupt classes, exams, or campus activities.
- Enhanced IT and cybersecurity protocols to protect student data and academic resources.
- Measures to ensure the safety and continuity of on-campus services, such as library access, labs, and student support.
- A streamlined process for managing student feedback and concerns effectively.
Achieving these certifications took nearly a year of preparation and collaboration across all departments. It required an in-depth, external audit of our processes, and we are incredibly proud of the effort and dedication shown by our teams across the university.
What This Means for Students
With these certifications, UOWD provides students with a safer and more dependable campus experience. They can trust that:
- Facilities meet international safety standards.
- Emergency protocols are in place and practiced regularly.
- Academic and support services are backed by systems that identify and address risks efficiently.
- Feedback is taken seriously, and solutions are implemented to improve their overall experience.
We are thankful to everyone who contributed to this achievement. From leadership to staff on the ground, this milestone reflects a shared commitment to making UOWD a better, safer place for all.
