UOWD alumna leads Dubai’s first ever Global Mentoring Walk
Tuesday, 15 March, 2016
Inspiring UOWD alumna and founder and director of both Mom Souq and Mompreneurs Middle East, Mona Tavassoli, organised a morning that had the potential to change the lives of women throughout Dubai recently in the form of the city’s first ever Global Mentoring Walk. Taking place on International Women’s Day, the event saw over 70 women leaders and emerging women leaders gather together to walk together in their community and discuss their personal and professional challenges and successes along their hour-long journey. The event encouraged aspiring female leaders to connect with mentors from established businesses including Yum (KFC), Biz Group and Ovation PR. As part of a global initiative, the event happened simultaneously in over 50 countries to mark International Women’s Day. Geraldine Laybourne, founder and former CEO of Oxygen Media, developed the concept for the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk in 2006 to empower young women professionals in New York City and across the United States. The University of Wollongong in Dubai was proud to sponsor the Dubai walk. Commenting on the initiative, Mona Tavassoli said “The event was amazing and we had a great time. One of our main objectives is to support corporates in the region to reach their women empowerment objectives as well as to empower women in the Middle East through education.” The next Mentoring Walk will take place on Saturday 7 May.
