UOWD Alumnus receives prestigious Burj CEO Award in London

Mohammed Shael Al Saadi, alumnus of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), recently received ‘The Smart Government Department Award’ by the prestigious Burj CEO Awards, held during a prestigious ceremony at The Dorchester Hotel in London. Mr Shael Al Saadi, a Master of Quality Management graduate of UOWD and CEO of the Corporate Strategic Affairs Sector within the Department of Economic Development (DED), was amongst a number of award recipients honoured by Burj CEO Awards which included high profile names such as the President of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Dr Hage Geingo, who was named The Visionary African Leadership and The Mayor of London His Excellency Sadiq Khan who was named Mayor of the Year. His Highness Aga Khan received the Life Achievement Award and Mariam Othman, Director-General of Rashid Centre for Disabled in Dubai received the award for The Best Welfare Organisation. Dubai Economy garnered The BURJ CEO Award - The Smart Government Department Award Category because of its role in the Smart Dubai initiatives, DED as a smart business-friendly government department, e-Transformation policies and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in its services, all of which are contributing towards making Dubai one of the smartest cities in the world. In addition, DED has a major initiative called the Business Community Engagement Initiative, which strategically engages with business groups and related entities to obtain feedback and suggestions to improve the business environment. Upon receiving the award, Mr Shael Al Saadi commented: “I am receiving this award on behalf of my entire team. Recognising the role and efforts of the Senior Leadership is significant as it steers the organisation in the right direction, encourage the team to achieve the vision & mission of the company and recognises outstanding leaders as role models for others to aspire to”. “Receiving this award creates a sense of pride as it also reflects the achievements of everyone who contributed to the success of the company. This spurs further staff morale and motivates our employees to do even better in the future”, he added. Mr Shael Al Saadi’s holds a number of positions including being a member of the Dubai Smart City Initiative (DSCI) Executive Committee and the Dubai Smart Government (DsG) Executive Committee, ensuring that (DED) smart strategy is aligned with overall Dubai Government movement towards achieving efficiency and better utilisation to all government resources. He is also a board member of Dubai Design District and chairperson of the Regulation & Policy Committee, the committee which is responsible for attracting talents in the design domain. He is currently pursuing his PhD degree at the University of Dubai.
