Sunday, 14 June, 2009

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) bid farewell to its Vice-President (Academic), Professor John Patterson, at Dubai Knowledge Village today. Professor Rob Whelan, President, UOWD, speaking on behalf of the UOWD family expressed the sentiments of all staff by thanking Professor Patterson for his dynamic leadership, support and strategic management of the academic areas (often by remote) during the past year. In response, Professor Patterson thanked staff for their contribution towards making his tenure at UOWD a rewarding experience. He reflected on his time at UOWD during the past twelve months and noted that he was "incredibly impressed by the commitment of the staff, without whom the progress made by the University would not have been possible. He indicated that he was moving on from UOWD, but will continue to have an on-going relationship through his membership on several committees. Professor Patterson concluded that he had fond memories of his "cameo role at UOWD, and was comforted by the fact that the academic programs of UOWD were in the capable hands of the in-coming Vice-President (Academic), Professor Mohamed Khalifa. The ceremony concluded with a luncheon reception. Professor Patterson returns to Australia to continue as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations) at the University of Wollongong.
