UOWD celebrates Australia Day
Tuesday, 26 January, 2010
It was all green and gold at Block 15, Dubai Knowledge Village as the University of Wollongong in Dubai celebrated Australia Day on 26th January. UOWD students, staff, alumni and guests participated in the days activities which included fun-filled traditional Aussie competitions such as Boomerang Toss, Bowl an Executive and Blow a Didgeridoo. Music was provided by an all-Australian line-up (Kylie Minogue, Savage Garden, John Farnham, Midnight Oil, INXS, Jimmy Barnes and Peter Andre, - courtesy of their CDs of course), Dubai Drums got the crowd going with their rhythmic beats, while the participants tucked in to a fair dinkum Aussie BBQ of sausages, onions, mustard, ketchup and potato salad, followed by vegemite on crackers, lamingtons and an Australia Day cake. In keeping with the community spirit, voluntary donations were encouraged and collected to support relief efforts for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. It was all true blue Aussie!
