UOWD show sporting strength during inaugural Super Four Tournament

The University of Wollongong in Dubai enjoyed medal success during Middlesex University’s inaugural Super Four inter-university sports festival recently. With outstanding performances from the girls’ athletics team, the boys’ athletics team, the boys’ football team, the girls’ volleyball team and the girls’ basketball team, the tournament also saw three UOWD students voted Most Valued Player during the course of the tournament.On the race track, Marielle Bertin stormed to success with gold medals in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events, securing the tournament’s Most Valued Female Athlete title in the process. Jeet Sethi also proved he was a competitor to be reckoned with, bagging silver in the boys’ 100m race.Elsewhere on the field, a tight run match against Middlesex University led to the boys’ football team swooping to success with a 5-4 victory to be crowned team of the tournament, with UOWD’s Saif Allah’s performance winning the Most Valued Football Player accolade.The girls’ volleyball team also continued an exceptional season with a convincing 2- 0 victory against Manipal University. Miyuki Shimzu was bestowed the tournament’s Most Valued Volleyball Player honour.
