UOWD student gets on her soapbox to bag public speaking competition win
Wednesday, 23 March, 2016
Bachelor of Commerce: Marketing Student Arohi Bangera returned triumphantly to UOWD’s campus recently after winning first place at 'Soapbox 2016’: a highly competitive inter-university public competition organised by BITS Pilani, Dubai. Taking place as part of Enginuity 16, a techno-managerial festival organised by the University, the competition saw Miss Bangera impress the judges with a humorous and informative speech on why students should exercise caution when posting on social media sites. A hot topic in the UAE, Miss Bangera’s well-structured speech beat of competition from BITS Pilani Dubai, American University of Sharjah, the Institute of Management Technology and Manipal University to bag first place. The win comes hot on the heels of a number of successful public speaking performances for Miss Bangera, having most recently given a sterling performance at Skyline University’s Cross-Fire Competition and celebrating a covetous win at the Emirate Environment Group’s public speaking competition for GCC students. Faculty Co-ordinator of UOWD’s Speak Easy Club, Dr Swapna Koshy, commended Arohi saying: “Arohi is a real inspiration to other students. Of course, she has great oratorical skills but she works diligently to hone it. I am amazed by her time management skills too. Exams and assignments do not stop her from participating in competitive events. She is a high achieving student and is equally successful in co-curricular activities too.”
